A High Efficiency Furnace Can Save You Money This Winter

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the biggest portion of your utility bills is spent on heating your home. It makes sense, then, that the best way to lower your utility bills is to lower the cost of heating your home. Bur how can you lower your heating costs? The answer is amazingly simple:

A high efficiency Furnace can save you money this winter.

What are High Efficiency Furnaces?

In simple terms, high efficiency furnaces are those that convert approximately 95 percent of their fuel into energy (heat) for your home. In these furnaces, only about 5 percent of the fuel is wasted.)

High efficiency furnaces have extra heat exchangers that extract every last bit of heat out of the exhaust gases before sending it outside. This means extra warmth for your home while using less fuel—an instant energy savings!

Buying High Efficiency Furnaces

The efficiency of a furnace is measured in its annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE). The AFUE number means the percentage of the energy of its fuel that the furnace uses to heat your home. (For instance, an AFUE rating of 70 means that 70 percent of the furnace’s fuel energy is being used to heat the home).

But you don’t have to do tons of research on AFUE ratings in order to discover the best high efficiency furnaces. Rather, the Federal Trade Commission requires that the AFUE rating be displayed on all new furnaces. This makes it easy to compare the benefits of various high efficiency furnaces.  Simply buy a high efficiency furnace that has a minimum AFUE of 90 percent and you’ll save money on your heating bill this winter.
