Home Comfort Experts Helps Fight Hunger

Each holiday season Home Comfort Experts makes it a priority to give back to our community.  See our 2012 efforts in this blog post – Tis the Season: Home Comfort Gives Back.  The Home Comfort Experts team, along with our clients, teamed up to make yet another generous donation of 562 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana and the Marshall County Food Bank.

Why did we choose to support local food banks? According to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, one out of every four kids struggles with hunger. In fact, for many students in Indiana, the lunch provided at school is the most nutritious or sometimes the only meal of their day.

One of the ways that The Food Bank helps to combat hunger is through their Food 4 Kids Fun Packs Program. Through donations, the Food Bank is able to fill sacks of nutritious food that’s kid-friendly, shelf-stable and ready to eat with little or no cooking. These packs are free for students with selected schools that have been identified as having a high rate of children eligible for free and reduced lunch programs.

Another way that The Food Bank is able to alleviate hunger for Indiana families is through their Mobile Food Pantry Program. This program distributes fresh perishable items, including produce, dairy, grains, and proteins to areas of Indiana that do not have access to a food pantry.

By donating 562 pounds of food, 774 items total, we are able to contribute to the Food Bank’s overall goal in fighting hunger in Indiana. Thanks to all of our wonderful employees and clients who helped us give another large donation this year. For more information about how you can join this cause, visit feedindiana.org.
