Duct Cleaning For Good Indoor Air Quality

Air duct cleaning is a process in which the accumulated dirt and debris in your air duct system is vacuumed out while performing a thorough cleaning of the furnace fat and air conditioning coils.  It is a good idea to have this procedure performed by a trained professional who will avoid damaging your duct system and take precautions to prevent the debris being removed from reentering the house’s air supply.

A trained professional with the right equipment will also be able to reach areas of your air duct system that you will not be able to reach with normal household equipment.

While the EPA has not yet recommended that air ducts be cleaned on a regular basis, they do recommend that they be cleaned on an “as needed” basis.  There are several instances where you might find duct cleaning to be a good idea.  Water in your ducts may lead to mold growth, in which case, you will need to stop the water problem, and then have your system thoroughly cleaned.

Duct cleaning can reveal blockages in air flow if you are having difficulty with furnace airflow. If you have animals that shed, you may want to clean your return ducts more frequently to reduce buildup.  Also, if you are moving into a new house, you may want to have your ducts cleaned to remove fiberglass, sawdust, drywall dust and any foreign objects that may have fallen in during construction.  Occasionally air ducts can be infested with vermin.  If this is the case, this can lead to health problems within the household and a thorough duct cleaning is definitely recommended.
